Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator.
2. Remove the accelerator controls cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2).




3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.




4. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.
5. Remove the accelerator controls cable shield, if equipped.




6. Remove the accelerator control cable (3) from the retaining clip (2).




7. Remove the accelerator control cable (2) from the throttle body lever (3).




8. Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the accelerator controls cable bracket (2).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





NOTE: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference and damage to the component.

1. Install the accelerator control cable through the bulkhead.
2. Install the snap retainer through the bulkhead.




3. Install the accelerator controls cable through the slot in the accelerator pedal lever.
4. Seat the snap retainer in the accelerator pedal lever.





IMPORTANT:
^ Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed and wide open throttle.
^ Assure that the cable is under the hook (1) in the throttle body lever.

5. Install the accelerator control cable (2) to the throttle body lever (3).




6. Install the accelerator control (1) cable to the accelerator cable bracket (2).




7. Install the accelerator control cable (3) into the retaining clip (2).
8. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator.
9. Install the accelerator cable shield, if equipped.





NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

10. Install the fuel injection sight shield.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
