Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the left front diagonal brace.
3 Remove the cross vehicle brace, if equipped.
4. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. See Refrigerant, A/C - Service and Repair.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
7. Remove the lower air deflector.
8. Remove the right side engine splash shield.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
10. Remove the compressor hose assembly at the compressor.
11. Remove the lower mounting bolt.
12. Remove the two upper mounting bolts.
13. Remove the compressor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Replacement A/C compressors are shipped without oil (dry). Add 60 ml (2 oz) of synthetic refrigerant lubricant (PAG).




1 Install the compressor.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2 Install the two upper mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor top bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

3 Install the lower mounting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor bottom bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

IMPORTANT: Lubricate the new sealing washers with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

4. Install the compressor hose assembly to the compressor.
5. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
6. Install the lower air deflector.
7. Install the right side engine splash shield.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the accessory drive belt.
10. Evacuate and charge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. See Refrigerant, A/C - Service and Repair.
11. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing. Testing and Inspection
12. Install the cross vehicle brace, if equipped.
13. Install the left front diagonal brace.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
