Speedometer and Odometer

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a gear-driven permanent magnet generator housed in the transaxle. The sensor generates a sine wave output with a frequency proportional to the vehicle speed. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses this information to generate a vehicle speed signal that is sent through the class 2 serial data link: the instrument cluster then is able to utilize this data for the operation of:
^ The speedometer
^ The odometer

The season odometer displays the total accumulated miles/km of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) of the instrument cluster. Contact an authorized Delco(R) service center in order to program the proper vehicles specifics (including mileage) for the instrument cluster, if the following conditions occur:
^ An odometer malfunction.
^ The instrument cluster needs replacement.

The trip odometer displays the accumulated mileage/km to the tenths of a mile/km since the last reset. this value is stored in the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) of the instrument cluster. The trip odometer may be reset on the uplevel cluster by pressing the TRIP RESET button. The trip odometer may be reset on the uplevel cluster by pressing the RESET button when the trip information is being displayed in the Driver Information Display (DID). If a button is not used in order to reset the trip odometer, the display will roll over automatically at the following values:
^ 999.9 miles (English mode)
^ 999.9 km (metric mode)

If the English/metric button is pushed again, the cluster converts the displayed km value into miles. When the trip odometer displays more than 621.4 miles (English mode) and the English/metric button is pressed, the trip odometer performs the following functions:
^Resets to zero
^Displays km values
