Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments
Removal Procedure1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Block the wheels.
3. Place the vehicle is the Neutral position.
4. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
5. Remove the range selector cable for the Automatic Transaxle (A/T).
6. Remove the wiring harness connectors.
7. Remove the A/T range selector lever. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Lever Replacement.
8. Remove the PNP switch mounting bolts.
9. Remove the PNP switch.
Installation Procedure

- J 41545 Park/Neutral Switch Alignment Tool
1. Verify that the shift shaft in the Neutral position.
Important: Do NOT rotate a new PNP switch. A new PNP switch is pinned in the Neutral position. If the bolt holes do not align with the mounting boss on the transaxle, verify that the shaft is in the Neutral position.
Adjust an old PNP switch or a new switch that has been rotated and the pin is broken. Refer to PNP Switch Replacement.
2. Align the flats of the shift shaft to the flats in the PNP switch.
3. Install the PNP switch to the mounting bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the PNP switch mounting boss.
Tighten
Tighten the PNP switch mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the A/T range selector lever. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Lever Replacement.
6. Install the wiring harness connectors.
7. Install the A/T range selector cable.
Important: Verify that the engine starts only in the Park position or the Neutral position once the PNP switch is installed. Readjust the PNP switch and inspect the shifter and the A/T range selector cable if the engine starts in any other position. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Adjustment.
8. Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management
9. Remove the blocks from the wheels.
10. Disengage the parking brake.
