Condition

Some owners may comment that the height of the head restraints or headrests increases during vehicle operation.

Correction

Use the following service procedure to replace the head restraint with a new restraint that has thicker springs inside to prevent the condition.

1. Remove the head restraint from the seat by raising it to the full-up position and insert a small rounded tool such as an allen wrench, into the hole in the guide assembly in order to release the lock tabs. It additional information is needed when removing the head restraint, refer to the Seats sub-section of the Body and Accessories section of the appropriate Service Manual.

Important:
Most of the head restraints listed in the parts section do not come with the support rods. If this condition is encountered, continue with Step 2. If the head restraint comes with the supports rods already installed, proceed to Step 3.

2. With the head restraint removed from the seat, rotate or turn the support rods 90 degrees (1/4 turn) and then pull them out of the head restraint. Install the support rods in the new head restraint and rotate back 90 degrees (1/4 turn) to the original position.

3. Install the head restraint in the seat and verify that it can be raised or lowered without excessive effort.
