- Symptoms

IMPORTANT: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.

1. Perform the A Diagnostic System Check - Theft Deterrent in order to verify that all of the following items are true:
^ There are no DTCs set.
^ The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
2. Review the following system operations in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions:
^ Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Operation
^ Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) Operation

VISUAL/PHYSICAL INSPECTION
^ Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Theft Deterrent System. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories.
^ Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which may cause the symptom
^ Ensure that the ignition key is a Pass Key III(R) key. Pass Key III(R) keys are identified by PK3 stamped into the steel shank of the key.

INTERMITTENT
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Diagrams.

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
^ Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Alarm Mode Inoperative
^ Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Does Not Disarm with Key Lock
^ Horn Inoperative in Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Alarm Mode
^ Lights Inoperative In Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Alarm Mode
^ SECURITY Indicator Inoperative
