Extension Housing: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure






Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the right front tire and the wheel assembly.
4. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. Refer to Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement.

Important: Carefully guide the right drive axle output shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the lip seal surface.

5. Remove the right drive axle from the vehicle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement.






6. Remove the transmission brace from the engine.






7. Remove the case extension bolts.
8. Remove the case extension assembly and the seal.

Installation Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 36850 TRANSJEL





1. Install the case extension assembly and the seal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the case extension bolts.

^ Tighten the bolts to 36 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the transmission brace to the engine bracket.
4. Install the right drive axle into the vehicle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement.
5. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly.
6. Install the vehicle speed sensor. Refer to Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
