Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J42578 Steering Wheel Puller Legs
- J1859-A Steering Wheel Puller

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution In Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
3. Remove the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bag, Service and Repair.
4. Remove the weight block from the steering wheel base if equipped.
5. Remove the steering wheel nut.





6. Note the mark on the steering shaft and the steering wheel in order to ensure proper alignment during installation. Use the J42578 and the J1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel.
8. Remove the J42578 and the J1859-A from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure
1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
2. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the shaft.
3. Install the steering wheel.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





4. Install the steering wheel nut.
Tighten the nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the weight block.
6. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bag, Service and Repair.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
