Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) contains sophisticated on-board diagnostics. The diagnostics identify the source of any system malfunction as specifically as possible. This diagnosis occurs whether the malfunction was intermittent or constant. The on-board diagnostics are accessed with a scan tool.
The scan tool performs the following functions:
- Specific identification of the last diagnostic trouble code
- Storage of specific data at the time of the malfunction
- Monitoring of each input and output, enabling the following operations:
- Malfunction confirmation
- Repair verification
- Manual control of the components
- Automated functional tests
