Dual Zone Control Switch

The right air temperature switch assembly allows the passenger to offset the air discharge temperatures on the right side of the vehicle. Passenger temperatures can be adjusted 3°C (5°F) from the primary setting. The switch assembly has LED's that will illuminate in order to inform the passenger of the intensity of the offset. In order to activate the dual zone, the passenger slides the switch to the desired offset. If the right air temperature switch assembly is ON, turn the assembly OFF by pressing the OFF switch once on the HVAC control module. Pressing the OFF switch a second time will turn OFF the entire HVAC system. Greater sunload on one side of the vehicle may cause the discharge air temperatures to be different, even when the HVAC system is not operating in a dual zone mode.

A 5-volt reference signal is sent from the IPM to the right air temperature switch assembly over the passenger HVAC control assembly signal circuit. A variable resistor inside the sensor is varied when the passenger slides the switch to either the cool or warm side. That varied voltage provides a signal to the software inside the IPM and the right air temperature actuator is moved accordingly. Remaining voltage from the right air temperature switch assembly is sent back to the IPM ground through the low reference circuit.
