Ignition Lock Cylinder

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
4. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement- On Vehicle.
5. Remove the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws.
6. Remove the lower steering column trim cover.





7. Remove the upper steering column trim cover retaining screws (3).





8. Lift the upper steering column trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
9. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the ignition lock cylinder access hole.





10. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
11. Using the bent tip awl, push down on the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
12. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.





13. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the lock module assembly by pulling the ignition lock cylinder away from the steering column.

Installation Procedure





1. Insert the ignition lock cylinder through the upper steering column trim cover.
2. Install the ignition lock cylinder to the lock module assembly by doing the following:
2.1. Align the positioning slot and locking tab slot on the lock module assembly to the positioning tab and locking tab on the ignition lock cylinder.
2.2. Push the ignition lock cylinder into the lock module assembly until the locking tab locks against the locking tab.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw (3).
- Tighten the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).





4. Install the lower steering column trim cover to the closeout shroud.
5. Install the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws.
- Tighten the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).
6. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement- On Vehicle.
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
