Steering Column Trim Covers

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
4. Remove the IP trim panel lower. Refer to IP Trim Panel Replacement - Lower in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
5. Remove the tilt lever.





6. Remove the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws.
7. Remove the lower steering column trim cover from the closeout shroud.





8. Remove the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw (3).





9. Lift the upper steering column trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
10. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the ignition lock cylinder access hole.





11. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
12. Using the bent tip awl push down on the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
13. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position and remove the lock cylinder.
14. Remove the upper trim cover.
15. Disconnect the closeout shroud from the upper steering column trim cover.

Installation Procedure





1. Connect the closeout shroud to the upper steering column trim cover.
2. Install the upper steering column trim cover to the steering column.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. install the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw (3).
- Tighten the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
4. Install the ignition lock cylinder.





5. Install the lower steering column trim cover to the closeout shroud.
6. Install the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws.
- Tighten the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).





7. Install the tilt lever.
8. Install the IP trim panel lower. Refer to IP Trim Panel Replacement - Lower in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
9. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
