(Reposition Mirror Cut Line Gasket)
Models:
2001-2002 Buick Century, Regal
2001-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue
Condition
Some customers may comment of a wind rush noise coming from one or both outside rear view mirrors.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the mirror cut line gasket being folded over.
Correction
This condition may be corrected by folding the mirror cut line gasket back to its normal position and applying weatherstrip adhesive to hold it in place.
Use the following procedure to perform this repair:
1. Remove the three T20 Torx(R) head mirror retaining screws from the underside of the mirror. Reposition the outside rear view mirror to expose the mirror base and the mirror cut line gasket.
2. Clean the surface of the forward part of the mirror base under the cut line gasket with one of the cleaners listed below or equivalent.
^ 3M(R) General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, P/N 08984
^ Dominion Sure Seal, Sure Solve Stock BSS
^ Kent Acrosol
3. Apply weatherstrip adhesive to the forward part of the mirror base, under the cut line gasket, at the location shown by the small arrows in the illustration above.
4. Fold the cut line gasket back in place and apply tape to hold it while the weatherstrip adhesive dries. Allow approximately one hour for the weatherstrip adhesive to dry.
5. Remove the tape from the mirror cut line gasket. Clean any excess weatherstrip adhesive from the mirror base.
6. Reinstall the mirror onto the mirror base using the three T20 Torx(R) head retaining screws. Tighten the screws securely.
7. Repeat this procedure for the outside rear view mirror on the opposite side of the vehicle, if necessary.
