Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement



Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer toDisabling the SIR System .
3. Remove the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer toWindshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) .
4. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Remove the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement) .
6. Remove the left and the right instrument panel insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (LH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Left)Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (RH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Right) .
7. Remove the steering column opening filler.
8. Remove the instrument panel knee bolster.
9. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.
10. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement (Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement) .
11. Remove the bolts from the data link connector and position DLC harness aside.
12. Remove the front door inside carpet retainers. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement (Front Carpet Retainer Replacement) .
13. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement) .
14. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement (Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement) .
15. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement .
16. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer toHeadlamp Switch Replacement .
17. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement) .
18. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
19. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement or to HVAC Control Module Replacement .
20. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Service and Repair) .




21. Remove the bolts from the right side (end) instrument panel.




22. Remove the center and lower bolts from the instrument panel.




23. Remove the bolt from the left side (end) instrument panel.




24. Remove the bolts from the upper instrument panel.
25. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument panel assembly.
26. Remove the instrument panel assembly from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure

1. Position the instrument panel assembly to the vehicle.
2. Position the instrument panel wiring harness to the instrument panel assembly.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the bolts to the upper instrument panel trim pad.

Tighten the IP trim pad upper (windshield) bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).





4. Install the bolts to the left side (end) instrument panel trim pad.

Tighten the instrument panel trim pad left side bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).





5. Install the bolts to the center and lower instrument panel assembly.

Tighten the instrument panel trim pad center and lower bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).





6. Install the bolts to the right side (end) of the instrument panel assembly.

Tighten the instrument panel assembly right side bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.




8. Connect the electrical connector to the instrument panel assembly compartment lamp.
9. Install the instrument panel assembly compartment lamp into the instrument panel.
10. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Service and Repair) .
11. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement or to HVAC Control Module Replacement .
12. Install the radio. Refer toRadio Replacement .
13. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement) .
14. Install the headlamp switch. Refer toHeadlamp Switch Replacement .
15. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement .
16. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement (Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement) .
17. Install the IP accessory trim plate, if equipped. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement) .
18. Install the front door inside carpet retainers. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement (Front Carpet Retainer Replacement) .
19. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the IP and install the bolts .

Tighten the data link connector screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

20. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement (Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement) .
21. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.
22. Install the knee bolster to the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair) .
23. Connect the electrical connector to the driver information center (DIC), if equipped.
24. Install the steering column opening filler.
25. Install the left and the right instrument panel insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (LH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Left)Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (RH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Right) .
26. Install the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement) .
27. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair) .
28. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer toWindshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) .
29. Enable the SIR system. Refer toEnabling the SIR System .
30. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
