Wiper Arm: Service and Repair
WIPER ARM REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39822 Wiper Arm Puller
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Turn ON the ignition.
2. Turn the wiper switch to DELAY.
3. Turn OFF the ignition when the wiper arms are paused at the bottom of the wipe pattern.
4. Disconnect the washer hose from the washer nozzle.
5. Remove the cover from the nut.
6. Remove the nut from the wiper arm.
7. Remove the wiper arm from the wiper transmission drive shaft using the J 39822.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT:
^ Hold the measuring device at a 90 degree angle to the wiper blade.
^ Install the pin, or a same-size drill bit, in the wiper arm to relieve spring tension during installation.
1. Install the wiper arms on the wiper transmission drive shafts while maintaining the following distances:
^ Right arm: 97-107 mm (3.82-4.21 in) from the end of the wiper arm to the air inlet screen.
^ Left arm: 125-147 mm (4.92-5.78 in) from the wiper blade tip to the air inlet screen.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the wiper arm nut.
Tighten
Tighten the wiper arm nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
3. Remove the pin from wiper arm.
4. Install the cover on the nut.
5. Connect the washer hose to the washer nozzle.
6. Operate the windshield wipers and inspect for proper operation.
