Rear Suspension

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the exhaust pipe. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Exhaust Systems.
4. Disconnect the brake lines from the rear suspension support. Refer to Brake Hose Replacement - Rear (Disc) or Brake Hose Replacement - Rear (Drum) in Brakes and Traction Control.
5. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the suspension support. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement - Rear (Disc Brake) or Park Brake Cable Replacement - Rear (Drum Brake) in Brakes and Traction Control.
6. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft nuts from the rear stabilizer shaft links.
7. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft bolts from the rear suspension support.

Important: Support the rear suspension support with jack stands before removing the mounting bolts.

8. Remove the rear suspension support mounting bolts.
9. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods bolts from the knuckle.
10. Lower the rear suspension support in order to gain access to the rear wheel spindle rod bolts.
11. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods bolts from the rear suspension support.
12. Remove the rear suspension support.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the rear suspension support in place.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the rear wheel spindle rod-to-rear suspension support bolts and nuts.

- Tighten the rear wheel spindle rod-to-rear suspension support nuts to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the rear suspension support mounting bolts.

- Tighten the rear suspension support mounting bolts to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).

4. Position the rear wheel spindle rod to the knuckle.
Install the retaining bolts and nuts to the knuckle.

- Tighten the rear spindle rod-to-knuckle retaining nut to 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.).

5. Install the stabilizer shaft brackets to the rear suspension support.

Important: Insert the bracket bolts facing rearward. Do not tighten the bolts at this time.

6. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket bolts to the rear suspension support.
7. Install the stabilizer shaft-to-stabilizer shaft link nuts.

- Tighten the stabilizer shaft link nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).

8. Connect the stabilizer shaft to the rear suspension support.
9. Install the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolts.

- Tighten the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolts to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).

10. Connect the brake lines to the rear suspension support. Refer to Brake Hose Replacement Rear (Disc) or Brake Hose Replacement - Rear (Drum) in Brakes and Traction Control.
11. Install the parking brake cables and the tensioner. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement - Rear (Disc Brake) or Park Brake Cable Replacement Rear (Drum Brake) in Brakes and Traction Control.
12. Install the exhaust pipe. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Exhaust Systems.
13. Install the Tires and Wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Adjust the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment.
