Driver Information Center or Message Center
When the Driver Information Center (DIC) powers up it will display all segments on for 2 seconds. Then the DIG will return to display status it had before no power condition. There are 3 buttons on the DIC.
^ E/M (English/Metric) button
^ MODE button
^ RESET button
English/Metric Button
Pressing the E/M button changes the display units. The IPC will change the odometer units displayed in the IPC when the E/M button is pressed.
Mode Button
The display format for each mode is indicated in the table:
Pressing the MODE button changes the modes of operation for the DIG. There are five display modes available.
^ Average Fuel Economy (AFE)
^ Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE)
^ Trip Range
^ Oil Life Monitor
^ Boost Gage
RESET Button
Pressing the RESET button for one second will reset the mode displayed. Note that not all modes can be reset.
Average Fuel Economy (AFE)
AFE is calculated as the ratio between the following values:
^ AFE=Distance/Fuel
^ Distance=The accumulated distance since the last AFE reset
^ Fuel=The accumulated fuel consumption since the last AFE reset
You can reset the AFE mode by depressing the RESET button for 1 second. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF.
Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE)
Instantaneous fuel economy is calculated as the ratio between the following values:
^ IFE=Distance/Fuel
^ Distance=The accumulated distance since last update
^ Fuel=The accumulated fuel delivered since last update
You cannot reset the IFE mode. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF.
Trip Range
Trip Range is calculated between the following values:
^ Trip Range=AFE x Fuel Remaining
^ Fuel Remaining=Fuel sender value of available fuel
You cannot reset the Trip Range mode. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF.
Oil Life Monitor
Engine Oil life % is based on the information the DIG receives from a class 2 message from the PCM. The DIG displays the current % of the GM Oil Life System. When the oil life index is less than 10 %, the CHANGE OIL SOON light will be illuminated in the IPC indicating the oil needs changing.
When the oil is changed the Oil Life Monitor will need to be reset, refer to GM Oil Life System - Resetting. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF.
Boost Gage
If the vehicle is equipped with a 3.8L V6 supercharged engine the DIG will display the amount of boost (psi or kpa) the engine is receiving. The DIG receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating boost.
