Throttle Body Assembly Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Drain the radiator coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
2. Remove the fuel injection sight shield.

3. Remove the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector (1) from the IAT sensor (2).

4. Remove the intake air duct from the throttle body.

5. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.

6. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector from the TP sensor.

7. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector from the MAF sensor.

8. Remove the accelerator control cable from the throttle body lever.
9. Remove the cruise control cable from the throttle body lever.
10. Remove the accelerator control cable from the accelerator controls bracket.
11. Remove the cruise control cable from the accelerator controls bracket.
12. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator control cable bracket.

13. Remove the vacuum hoses from the throttle body noting location.

14. Remove the nut (2) from the air injection pipe (1) if applicable.
15. Remove the exhaust crossover.

16. Remove the throttle body support bracket.

17. Remove the 3 nuts and studs holding the throttle body to the intake manifold.

NOTE: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

18. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.
19. Remove the throttle body assembly from the Intake manifold.

20. Remove the accelerator controls bracket from the throttle body if the throttle body is being replaced.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the accelerator controls bracket to the throttle body if necessary.

Tighten
Tighten the accelerator controls bracket bolts to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

2. Install the new gasket, new inserts and studs if necessary.
3. Install the throttle body assembly.
4. Install the throttle body retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

5. Install the throttle body support bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

6. Install the exhaust crossover.
7. Install the nut (2) to the air injection pipe (1) if applicable.

8. Install the accelerator control cable to accelerator controls bracket at throttle body.
9. Install the cruise control cable to accelerator controls bracket at throttle body.

IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle (WOT).

10. Install the accelerator control to the throttle body lever.
11. Install the cruise control cable to the throttle body lever.
12. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
13. Install the electrical harness retainer clip and harness to the accelerator control cable bracket.

14. Install the vacuum hoses to throttle body as noted on removal.
15. Reconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector.
16. Reconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector.

17. Install the intake air duct (1) to the throttle body and air cleaner assembly.

Tighten
Tighten the clamp to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

18. Reconnect the IAT sensor electrical connector to the IAT sensor.
19. Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant.Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
20. Install the fuel injection sight shield.
