Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair
AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENTREMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the screws from the air cleaner top cover.
3. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) from the air cleaner.
4. Remove the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector (1) from the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor (2).
5. Loosen the intake air duct from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor end of the intake air duct.
6. Remove the intake air duct from the throttle body.
7. Remove the screws from the air cleaner.
8. Inspect air cleaner element.
9. Remove any loose debris that may be found laying in the base of the air cleaner.
10. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install a new air cleaner element into the air cleaner assembly.
2. Install the air cleaner assembly to the engine compartment over the stud on the inner fender.
IMPORTANT: VIN 1 has a white drain tube under the PCM hosing and white inlet area.
3. Inspect to see that the coolant recovery hose is not trapped under the air cleaner assembly.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the air cleaner assembly to the radiator support with the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 4 N.m (35 lb in).
5. Secure the air cleaner assembly to the stud on the inner fender with the nut.
5.1. Push to secure the nut.
5.2. Assure that the nut is fully seated.
IMPORTANT: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct must be lined up to the throttle body when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect air flow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern.
6. Install the PCM from the air cleaner.
7. Install the screws in the air cleaner top cover.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
8. Install the intake air duct over the throttle body, being careful to ensure that the intake air duct is secure around the entire outer edge of the throttle body.
Tighten
Tighten the clamp assembly to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
9. Install the screws from the air cleaner cover.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
10. Connect the IAT sensor connector (1) to the IAT sensor (2).
11. Install the negative battery cable.
