Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling And Storage Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
2. Remove the yellow 2-way connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P module from the yellow 2-way connector (1) on the vehicle harness.
3. Remove the yellow 2-way connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P module from the I/P bracket (3).




4. Remove the I/P upper trim pad.
5. Note the wire harness routing position in order to assist in re-assembly.
6. Push the yellow 2-way connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P module away from the I/P (3).




7. Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module mounting fasteners (2).

IMPORTANT: When removing the inflatable restraint I/P module (3), do not damage the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail (4).

8. Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) from the I/P (1).
9. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: When installing the inflatable restraint I/P module (3), do not damage the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail (4).




1. Route the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail (4) down through the I/P (1).
2. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) to the I/P (1).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the mounting fasteners (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




4. Route the wiring harness (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module in place in order to secure the yellow 2-way connector clip to the I/P (3).
5. Install the I/P upper trim pad.




6. Clip the yellow 2-way connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P module to the I/P bracket (3).
7. Install the yellow 2-way connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P module to the yellow 2-way connector (1) on the vehicle harness.
8. Install the CPA (4) to the inflatable restraint I/P module connector (2).
9. Install the right insulator panel. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory Right in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
