Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement - Upper

TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
3. Remove the upper garnish moldings from the windshield pillar.
4. Remove the upper trim panel from the instrument panel (I/P).
5. Remove the front floor console, if equipped.
6. Remove the left and the right I/P insulators.
7. Remove the steering column filler.
8. Remove the knee bolster.
9. Remove the steering column.
10. Remove the hood latch release handle.
11. Remove the bolts from the data link connector, and move the DLC harness to one side.
12. Remove the front carpet retainers.
13. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P.
14. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P.
15. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped.
16. Remove the headlamp switch.
17. Remove the I/P cluster.
18. Remove the radio.
19. Remove the HVAC control assembly.
20. Remove the I/P compartment.




21. Release the I/P compartment lamp by depressing the retainers.
22. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the I/P compartment lamp.
23. Disconnect the fuse block from the cross vehicle beam by releasing the locking tab. Reposition the fuse block.




24. Remove the bolts from the right end of the I/P.




25. Remove the center and the lower bolts from the I/P.




26. Remove the bolt from the left end of the I/P.




27. Remove the bolts from the upper I/P.
28. Reposition the wiring harness from the I/P assembly.
29. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle


INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Position the I/P assembly to the vehicle.
2. Position the wiring harness to the I/P assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the bolts to the upper I/P trim pad.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).




4. Install the bolts to the left end of the I/P trim pad.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




5. Install the bolts to the center and to the lower I/P assembly.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).




6. Install the bolts to the right end of the I/P assembly.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.
8. Connect the electrical connector to the I/P assembly compartment lamp.
9. Install the compartment lamp into the I/P.
10. Install the I/P compartment.
11. Install the HVAC control assembly.
12. Install the radio.
13. Install the I/P cluster.
14. Install the headlamp switch.
15. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped.
16. Install the I/P cluster trim plate.
17. Install the I/P accessory trim plate.
18. Install the front carpet retainers.
19. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the I/P and install the bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

20. Install the hood latch release handle.
21. Install the steering column.
22. Install the knee bolster to the I/P.
23. Install the steering column filler.
24. Install the left and the right I/P insulators.
25. Install the front floor console, if equipped.
26. Install the upper trim panel.
27. Install the upper garnish moldings to the windshield pillar.
28. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
29. Connect the negative battery cable.
