Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.




3. Loosen the accumulator hose nut (2) from the accumulator.
4. Disconnect the accumulator hose from the accumulator.




5. Remove the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut (1) from the accumulator.
6. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.




7. Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.




8. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.
9. Remove the accumulator from the mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. If replacing the accumulator, add refrigerant oil to the accumulator.




2. Install the accumulator to the mounting bracket.




3. Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 4 N.m (36 lb in).

4. Install the accumulator.
5. Install the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 4 N.m (36 lb in).

6. Install the new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the accumulator hose.




7. Connect the accumulator hose onto the accumulator.
8. Tighten the accumulator hose nut (2).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).




9. Connect the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
10. Install the A/C compressor hose nut (1) onto the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

11. Install the air cleaner assembly.
12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
13. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
