Air Conditioning Refrigerant Filter Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the left front fender upper diagonal brace.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.




4. Loosen the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts.
5. Remove the A/C refrigerant filter from the condenser tube.

IMPORTANT: Immediately cap or tape the open ends of the condenser tube in order to prevent contamination.

6. Discard the O-ring.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove the cap or the tape from the ends of the condenser tube.




2. Lubricate and install new O-rings to each end of the condenser tube.
3. Install the A/C refrigerant filter to the condenser tube with the arrow pointing toward the evaporator.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Fully seat the A/C filter to the ferrules in order to ensure that the O-ring seat inside the filter housing.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

4. Install the air cleaner assembly.
5. Install the left front fender upper diagonal brace.
6. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
7. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
