Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
2. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator.
3. Remove the accelerator cable (5) from the accelerator pedal (1).
4. Attach a piece of mechanics wire to the end of the accelerator cable for aid in the installation of the cable.
5. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs.
6. Push the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.
7. Remove the accelerator cable from the retaining clip.
8. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.
9. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
10. Remove the accelerator cable from the vehicle and verify routing for installation.
11. Remove the mechanics wire from the end of the accelerator cable.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference and damage to the component.
1. Attach the mechanics wire to the end of the accelerator cable and Install the cable into vehicle using the routing verified during removal.
2. Install the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.
3. Install the snap retainer into the bulkhead.
4. Remove the mechanics wire from the accelerator cable and install the cable (5) to the accelerator pedal (1).
5. Install the accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.
6. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket.
7. Install the accelerator cable to the retaining clip.
8. Inspect for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also inspect for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed and wide open throttle.
9. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator.
10. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
