Compressor Replacement
COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the right front wheelhouse liner.
5. Remove the lower air deflector.
6. Remove the wiring harness bracket bolt.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C pressure sensor.
9. Remove the compressor hose nut from the compressor.
10. Remove the compressor hose from the compressor.
11. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the compressor hose.
12. Remove the front compressor mounting nuts.
13. Remove the bolt from the rear of the compressor.
14. Remove the compressor.
15. If replacing the compressor, balance the oil.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Add the proper amount of PAG oil to the compressor. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing.
IMPORTANT: The replacement compressor is shipped without PAG oil.
2. Install the compressor.
3. Install the front mounting nuts to the compressor.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
4. Install the rear bolt to the compressor.
Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
5. Install new sealing washers to the compressor hose.
6. Install the compressor hose to the compressor.
7. Install the compressor hose nut to the compressor.
Tighten the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
8. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
9. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C pressure sensor.
10. Install the wiring harness bracket and bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Install the accessory drive belt.
13. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
14. Leak test the fittings of the A/C component using the J 39400-A.
15. Install the lower air deflector.
16. Install the wheelhouse liner.
