Heater Core: Service and Repair



HEATER CORE REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: In order to access the heater core care must be taken when moving the heater core cover. The cover may crack, especially when cold.




1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
2. Position the J 38185 in order to remove the heater hose clamps.




3. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core.
4. Remove the console assembly.
5. Remove the auxiliary air distribution duct.




6. Remove the heater core heat shield cover from the HVAC module assembly.
7. Remove the air filter access cover.
8. Remove the heater core cover screws.
9. Lower and move the cover to obtain enough access to remove the heater core.




10. Remove the retaining screws (1) and straps from the heater core.
11. Remove the heater core.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the heater core into the HVAC module.




2. Install the retaining straps and screws (1).

Tighten the screws to 1.5 N.m (18 lb in).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the heater core cover.




4. Install the attaching screws.

Tighten the screws to 1.4 N.m (12 lb in).

5. Install the air filter access cover.

Tighten the screws to 1.4 N.m (12 lb in).

6. Install the heater core heat shield cover.
7. Install the auxiliary air distribution duct.
8. Install the console assembly.




9. Install the heater hoses using the J 38185.
10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
