Instrument Panel (IP) - Assembly Replacement



INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the IP trim pad.

IMPORTANT: After a non-deployment accident, visually inspect the instrument panel assembly for damage or deformation. Visual damage indicates that there is structural damage. Replace the IP assembly if structural damage is indicated.

2. Remove the steering column.
3. Remove the inflatable restraint IP module.
4. Remove the retaining studs from the steering column opening.




5. Remove the carrier to cowl fasteners (1).




6. Remove the IP carrier to A-pillar fasteners (1).
7. Pull the IP carrier rearward slightly.




8. Disconnect IP to body connector (1).




9. Disconnect the passenger side body harness electrical connectors (1).




10. Disconnect the left side IP to body electrical connectors (1, 2, 3).
11. Remove the carrier.
12. Remove the right side window defroster duct fasteners.
13. Remove the defroster duct.
14. Remove the left side window defroster duct fasteners.Remove the defroster duct.




15. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the heater and A/C programmer.
16. Remove the heater and A/C programmer bracket.
17. Remove the wiring harness from the bracket retainer.
18. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuse box.
19. Remove the fasteners retaining the fuse box.Remove the fuse box.
20. Remove the left side electrical connectors from the bracket.
21. Remove the right side electrical connectors from the bracket.
22. Remove the wiring harness from the carrier.




23. Remove the IP outer bracket fasteners (5).Remove the IP outer brackets (1) from the carrier.
24. Remove the IP inner bracket fasteners (6).Remove the IP inner brackets (2) from the carrier.
25. Remove the radio bracket fasteners (4).Remove the radio bracket from the carrier (3).




26. Remove the slip bracket fasteners (1).Remove the slip brackets (2) from the carrier.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the slip brackets (2) to the carrier.Loosely install the slip bracket fasteners (1).




2. Install the radio bracket (3) to the carrier.Install the radio bracket fasteners (4).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

3. Install the IP inner brackets (2) to the carrier.Install the IP inner bracket fasteners (6).

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

4. Install the IP outer brackets (1) to the carrier.Install the IP outer bracket fasteners (5).

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

5. Install the wiring harness to the carrier.
6. Install the right side electrical connectors to the bracket.
7. Install the left side electrical connectors to the bracket.
8. Install the fuse box.Install the fasteners retaining the fuse box.
9. Connect the electrical connectors to the fuse box.
10. Install the wiring harness to the bracket retainer.




11. Install the heater and A/C programmer bracket.
12. Connect the electrical connectors to the heater and A/C programmer.
13. Install the left side window defroster duct.Install the left side window defroster duct fasteners.
14. Install the right side window defroster duct.Install the right side window defroster duct fasteners.
15. Install the carrier partway.




16. Connect the left side IP to body electrical connectors (1, 2, 3).




17. Connect the passenger side body harness electrical connectors (1).




18. Connect IP to body connector (1).
19. Align the carrier to the brackets.




20. Install the carrier to A-pillar fasteners (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).




21. Install the carrier to cowl fasteners (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).




22. Tighten the previously installed fasteners (1) to the slip brackets.

Tighten the fasteners to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

23. Install the retaining studs to the steering column opening.
24. Install the inflatable restraint IP module.
25. Install the steering column.
26. Install the IP trim pad.
