Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
Removal Procedure





1. Caution: Refer to SIR Caution SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the steering wheel from the column.
3. Remove the tilt lever from the lower trim cover.
4. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1, 2) from the lower trim cover (3).





5. Gently unsnap the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover.





6. Important: In order to remove the upper trim cover and lock cylinder you will need to release the lock cylinder retaining pin in the access hole of the ignition lock cylinder case.

Remove 1 TORX head screw (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder .
8. Remove the upper trim cover.

Installation Procedure





1. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the upper trim cover (2) onto the steering column. Install 1 TORX head screw (1) into the upper trim cover (2).
^ Tighten the screw to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).





2. Install the lower trim cover onto the upper trim cover.

3. Important: If column shift, the shift lever seal must be seated in the trim covers.

Slide the shift lever seal down the shift lever.
4. Gently snap the upper and lower trim covers together.





5. Install 2 pan head tapping screws (1, 2) into the lower trim cover (3).
^ Tighten 1 pan head tapping screw (1) to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).
^ Tighten 1 pan head tapping screw (2) to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
6. Install the ignition lock cylinder .
7. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover.
8. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.
