Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose

POWER STEERING PRESSURE PIPE/HOSE REPLACEMENT (LY7)

Removal Procedure
1. Place drain pans under the vehicle as necessary.
2. Remove as much power steering fluid from the remote power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
3. Install the engine support fixture.
4. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
5. Remove the right front engine splash shield.
6. Remove the steering gear heat shield.
7. Remove the right side engine mount lower nuts.
8. Remove the left side transmission mount lower nuts.

Notice: Do NOT allow the wheel drive shaft constant velocity joint to contact the inner wheel structure. Use care when raising the engine in order to prevent wheel drive shaft constant velocity joint damage.

9. Lift the engine upward using the engine support fixture in order to allow the right side engine mount studs to separate from the cradle. This will allow the power steering gear inlet pressure hose to pass under the left side engine mount location during removal and installation.
10. Remove the right side engine mount/bracket assembly.

Important: The hose connector stays on the pressure hose.

11. Disconnect the pressure hose from the power steering pump.

12. Remove the pressure hose fitting (1) from the steering gear.
13. Unclip the power steering pressure hose retaining clips (2). Replace the retaining clips as necessary.

14. Remove the pressure hose from the vehicle. Discard the pressure hose and the hose connector.

15. Ensure a retaining ring seal is not in the power steering pump outlet port. Discard the retaining ring seal.

Installation Procedure

Important: A new power steering gear inlet pressure hose does not come with the hose connector or the retaining ring seal. A new hose connector comes with a new power steering pump, and is available separately. A new retaining ring seal comes with a new power steering pump, and is available separately.

1. Install a NEW retaining ring seal to the power steering pump outlet port.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Important: Hand tighten all fittings and retaining clips before finalizing any torques.

2. Install a NEW hose connector to the power steering pump outlet port.

Tighten
Hose connector to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).

3. Position the pressure hose in the vehicle.

4. Install the pressure hose fitting (1) to the steering gear.

Tighten
Fitting to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).

Important: The end of the new pressure hose that attaches to the power steering pump has a quick connect feature. This feature is only for the installation of a new pressure hose to a new hose connector.

5. Push the pressure hose (1) into the hose connector in order to install the hose to the power steering pump.
6. Install the right side engine mount/bracket assembly.
7. Lower the powertrain into position while aligning the right side engine mount and left side transmission mount into position.
8. Clip the pressure hose retaining clips into place.
9. Install the right side engine mount lower nuts.
10. Install the left side transmission mount lower nuts.
11. Install the steering gear heat shield.
12. Install the right front engine splash shield.
13. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly.
14. Remove the engine support fixture.
15. Clean any excess fluid from the vehicle and remove any drain pans.
16. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Service and Repair
