Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement



Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement (LY7)

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the RH tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the steering gear heat shield (snap type).
4. Place a drain pan under the vehicle near power steering hose-to-gear attachment.




5. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear.
6. Remove the power steering cooler pipe from the power steering gear.
7. Disconnect the power steering cooler pipe from the clips at the rear/RH side of the cradle.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Disconnect the power steering cooler pipe from the power steering return hose.
10. Remove the power steering cooler pipe from the vehicle through the inner wheel opening.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the power steering cooler pipe into position through the inner wheel opening.
2. Connect the power steering cooler pipe to the power steering return hose.
3. Raise the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Install the power steering cooler pipe to the power steering gear.

Tighten the cooler pipe fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).




5. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear.

Tighten the pressure hose fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

6. Attach the power steering cooler pipe clips to cradle.
7. Install the steering gear heat shield (snap type) over the steering gear and pipes.
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
9. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.
12. Bleed the power steering system.
13. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
