Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement

Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (3.6L LY7)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
2. Remove the engine mount struts and brackets.
3. One engine mount strut bolt and nut can be reinstalled to the engine mount strut bracket on the engine to be used as an attachment point for front engine attachment.
4. Disconnect the electrical harness clip at the UHJB and the coolant housing.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector at the engine control module (ECM).
6. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
7. Remove the power steering reservoir and bracket
8. Remove the attachment screw from the power steering pump reservoir to bracket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

9. Install the engine support fixture hook to power steering reservoir bracket and reinstall to cylinder head.
Tighten the power steering reservoir bracket to tighten fittings to:

* M6 bolt - 9 N.m (80 lb in)
* M8 bolt - 25 N.m (18 lb ft)

10. Install the engine support fixture.
11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
12. Remove the RH tire and wheel assembly.
13. Remove the RH engine splash shield.
14. Remove the steering gear heat shield (snap type).

15. Remove the RH engine mount lower nuts.
16. Remove the LH transmission mount lower nuts.
17. Lower the vehicle enough to access the engine support fixture tool.
18. Raise engine upward using the engine support fixture to allow RH engine mount studs to separate from cradle. This will allow the pressure hose to pass under the mount location during removal and installation.

Notice: Do NOT allow the wheel drive shaft constant velocity joint to contact the inner wheel structure. Use care when raising the engine in order to prevent wheel drive shaft constant velocity joint damage.

19. Raise the vehicle.
20. Remove the RH engine mount/bracket assembly.
21. Place a drain pan under the vehicle near the power steering hose to gear attachment.

22. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear.
The power steering pressure hose is the lower hose at the power steering gear.
23. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
24. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from clips at the rear RH side and off cradle.
25. Disconnect the electrical harness clip to hose.

26. Disconnect the pressure hose from clips along the front of cradle.
27. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install NEW quick connector fittings at the power steering pump.

Tighten the fittings to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).

2. Install the power steering pressure hose to vehicle.

3. Install the pressure hose at steering gear and hand tighten.
4. Install the power steering pressure hose clips to cradle and ensure proper hose routing.
5. Install the power steering pressure hose into quick connector at power steering pump.
6. Tighten the power steering pressure hose to power steering gear.

Tighten the pressure hose fittings to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

7. Install the heat shield on the steering gear covering hoses.
8. Install the RH engine mount to engine.
9. Lower the vehicle enough to access the engine support tool.
10. Lower the powertrain into position while aligning the RH and LH powertrain mount studs into cradle.

11. Install the RH engine mount lower nuts.
12. Install the LH transmission mount lower nuts.
13. Install the RH engine splash shield.
14. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
15. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Remove the engine support fixture.
18. Remove the power steering reservoir bracket and engine support fixture hook.
19. Attach the power steering reservoir to bracket screws.

Tighten the power steering reservoir screws to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

20. Install the power steering reservoir bracket to cylinder head. Tighten the power steering reservoir bracket bolts to:

* M6 bolt - 9 N.m (80 lb in)
* M8 bolt - 25 N.m (18 lb ft)

21. Install the coolant recovery reservoir.
22. Install the engine mount struts and brackets.
23. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
24. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.
25. Bleed the power steering system.
26. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
