Subject: Rear Quarter Window Molding Finish Deteriorating/Delaminating (Replace Molding Assembly)
Models:
2006-2009 Buick Allure (Canada), LaCrosse
Condition
Some owners may comment that the high gloss finish on the quarter glass molding (applique) is deteriorating (1).
Cause
This condition may be caused by insufficient U.V. protection that may have been applied to the molding. This allows the finish layers to separate, resulting in a dull, uneven or peeling appearance.
Correction
This procedure is done with the quarter glass assembly on the vehicle. DO NOT remove the glass assembly.
1. Using a plastic trim stick removal tool, pry the molding away from the glass starting at the rear edge (1).
2. With the molding off of the vehicle, remove the seal from the front edge of the molding for reuse.
3. Clean any adhesive residue from the glass assembly using a general purpose adhesive cleaner.
4. Apply 12.7 mm wide x 1.52 mm thick (1/2 in x.060 in) double sided tape, such as 3M P/N 06397, to the glass frame base. Position the tape along the ridge at the rear edge as shown (1).
5. Install the seal removed from the original molding onto the new service part. The seal should clip on - no adhesive is required.
6. Remove the protective film from the double sided tape and install the new molding. Apply firm hand pressure to ensure that the molding is making full contact with the double sided tape.
