Air Injection Control Valve: Service and Repair
Secondary Air Injection Shutoff and Check Valve Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
2. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold. Reposition the hose out of the way.
3. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the secondary air injection (AIR) shutoff and check valve.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Remove the intake manifold cover bracket bolts (2) and bracket (1).
6. Remove the AIR shutoff and check valve pipe to exhaust manifold nuts (3).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the AIR feed tube bracket nut (2) from the throttle body stud.
9. Disconnect the AIR feed tube quick connect fitting (3) from the AIR shutoff and check valve.
10. Remove the AIR feed tube from the throttle body stud and reposition.
11. Remove the AIR shutoff and check valve to bracket upper bolts (1).
12. Remove the AIR shutoff and check valve (1).
13. Remove and discard the AIR shutoff an check valve to exhaust manifold gasket.
14. Clean the AIR to exhaust manifold gasket sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure
1. Install a NEW AIR shutoff an check valve gasket to the exhaust manifold studs.
2. Install the AIR shutoff and check valve (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
3. Install the AIR shutoff and check valve to bracket upper bolts (1).
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
4. Position and install the AIR feed tube to the throttle body stud.
5. Connect the AIR feed tube quick connect fitting (3) to the AIR shutoff and check valve.
6. Install the AIR feed tube bracket nut (2) to the throttle body stud.
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
7. Raise the vehicle.
8. Install the AIR shutoff and check valve pipe to exhaust manifold nuts (3).
Tighten the nuts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
9. Install the intake manifold cover bracket (1) and bolts (2).
Tighten the bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the engine harness electrical connector to the AIR shutoff and check valve.
12. Position and connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold.
13. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
