Ignition Control Module Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the intake manifold cover.
3. Loosen the bolt (2) securing the ignition control module (ICM) wiring harness electrical connector.
4. Remove the ICM wiring harness electrical connector from the ICM.




5. Disconnect the rear spark plug wires (1) from the ignition coils.
6. Disconnect the front spark plug wires (2) from the ignition coils.




7. Remove the ICM wiring harness ground nut (1).
8. Remove the ICM wiring harness ground (2) from the stud.




9. Remove the ICM bracket nuts.
10. Remove the ICM bracket from the studs.
11. Place the ICM assembly on a clean work surface.




12. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
13. Remove the ignition coils from the ICM.




14. Remove the ICM from the bracket.

Installation Procedure




1. Place the ICM onto the bracket.




2. Install the ignition coils to the ICM.
3. Install the ignition coil bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in).




4. Install the ICM bracket onto the studs.
5. Install the ICM bracket nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).




6. Install the ICM wiring harness ground (2) onto the stud.
7. Install the ICM wiring harness ground nut (1).

Tighten the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).




8. Connect the rear spark plug wires (1) to the ignition coils.
9. Connect the front spark plug wires (2) to the ignition coils.




10. Install the ICM wiring harness electrical connector.
11. Tighten the bolt (2) securing the ICM wiring harness electrical connector.
12. Install the intake manifold cover.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
