Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2

Removal Procedure





1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the left engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement).
6. Position jack under rear of frame.




7. Remove the bolts which secure the rear frame to the body.
8. Lower the frame to gain access to the crankshaft position sensor lower heat shield.




9. Remove the crankshaft position sensor lower heat shield bolts (1, 2) and position shield out of the way.
10. Remove the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector.




11. Remove the KS bolt.
12. Remove the KS.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the KS.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

2. Install the KS bolt.

Tighten the KS bolt to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).





3. Install the KS electrical connector.




4. Install the crankshaft position sensor lower heat shield bolts.

* Tighten the crankshaft position sensor lower heat shield M6 bolt (1) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
* Tighten the crankshaft position sensor lower heat shield M10 bolt (2) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).


5. Raise the frame.




6. Install the bolts which secure the rear frame to the body.
7. Install the rear frame bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).

8. Remove jack from under frame.
9. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement).
10. Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Lower the vehicle.
