Subject:
Power Steering Leak (Replace Power Steering Gear Cylinder Line and Add Tie Strap)

Models:
2008 Buick Allure (Canada Only), LaCrosse
2008 Pontiac Grand Prix

with 3.8L V6 Engine (VIN 1 - RPO L26)

Condition

Some customers may comment on a fluid leak. After inspection, the technician may find that the leak is power steering fluid and appears to be coming from the gear assembly.

Cause

This leak may be caused by the cylinder line on the power steering gear assembly contacting the transmission dipstick tube. Overtime, this contact may result in a rub-through of the metal line.

Correction

Replace the affected power steering gear cylinder line. If the power steering gear was damaged due to the system being run low or dry of fluid, replace the power steering gear assembly. After repair, add a tie strap as shown to prevent contact with the transmission dipstick tube.
