Output Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the differential carrier. Refer to Differential Carrier Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the left drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).




4. Push on the output shaft in order to expose the snap ring. Remove the output shaft snap ring (56).
5. Remove the left side differential gear (118). Remove the thrust washer (117).




6. Remove the output shaft (57) through the opposite end of the case.


Installation Procedure




1. Inspect the output shaft (57) splines for burrs or damage. Inspect the snap rings (56) for overexpansion.




2. Install the snap rings (56) onto the output shaft and install the output shaft (57) from the channel plate side of the transmission.
3. Install the differential carrier. Refer to Differential Carrier Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Install the left drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
