Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

Sunroof Description and Operation

The Power Sunroof System consists of the following components:

* Sunroof control module
* Sunroof switch
* Sunroof window
* Sunshade
* S/Roof Fuse 20 A

Power and Grounds

Battery positive voltage is supplied at all times to the sunroof control module from the 20 A S/ROOF Fuse located in the instrument panel fuse block. Ground is supplied to the sunroof control module through the body ground circuit G302.

Ground is supplied to the sunroof switch through the body ground circuit G302.

Power Sunroof Operation

The Power Sunroof System will operate only with the ignition turned to the RUN or Accessory position, this allows for retained accessory power (RAP) control of the sunroof through the body control module (BCM). With the ignition in the run or accessory position, the BCM supplies the sunroof control module with ignition voltage which allows sunroof operation. Once the ignition switch is turned to OFF the sunroof will continue to operate until any door is opened or when the RAP timer reaches its shut-off limit. For a description and operation of the RAP operation, refer to Retained Accessory Power Description and Operation (Retained Accessory Power Description and Operation).

Sunroof Switch

The sunroof can be placed in 3 preset positions:

* Open
* Vent
* Closed

The sunroof can be placed in any preferred open position when:

* The sunroof is in the fully opened position by pressing and holding the sunroof switch in the CLOSE position until the panel has reached the desired position then release the CLOSE switch in order to stop the sunroof
* The sunroof is opening, it can be stopped by momentarily pressing either side of the switch.

Sunroof Open

When the sunroof switch is placed in the OPEN position, a ground is applied from the sunroof switch low reference circuit , through the sunroof switch and to the sunroof switch open signal circuit. The sunroof control module then applies voltage to the sunroof motor open control circuit and applies a ground to the sunroof motor close circuit. The sunroof motor then opens the sunroof to the full open position.

Vent Open

When the sunroof switch is placed in the VENT position, a ground is applied from the sunroof switch low reference circuit , through the sunroof switch and to the sunroof switch open signal circuit. The sunroof control module then applies voltage to the sunroof motor open control circuit and applies a ground to the sunroof motor close circuit. The sunroof motor then opens the sunroof to the VENT position.

Sunroof and Vent Close

When the sunroof switch is placed and held in the CLOSED position, a ground is applied from the sunroof switch low reference circuit through the sunroof switch and to the sunroof switch close signal circuit. The sunroof control module then applies voltage to the sunroof motor close control circuit and applies a ground to the sunroof motor open circuit. The sunroof motor then closes the sunroof.

Sunroof Control Module

The sunroof control module consists of an internal motor and the necessary logic needed to accept commands from the sunroof switch. The sunroof control module supplies voltage to the sunroof switch and monitors this voltage. When the sunroof switch is activated the switch signal circuit is pulled low and the motor will move the sunroof glass in the corresponding direction.
