Master Cylinder Replacement

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution (Vehicle Damage Warnings).
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the brake pipes from the master cylinder.
Cap the brake pipe fittings to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
3. Remove the 2 master cylinder nuts.
4. Remove the master cylinder.
5. If installing a new master cylinder, remove the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement (Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the master cylinder reservoir, if removed. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement (Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement).
2. Bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding (Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding).
3. Install the master cylinder to the power vacuum brake booster.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
4. Install the 2 brake master cylinder nuts and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
5. Install the master cylinder brake pipe fittings and tighten to 29 Nm (21 lb ft).
6. Connect the electrical connector to the brake fluid level sensor.
7. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair).
