Radiator Replacement




Radiator Replacement (LGD, LZ9) (3.9L)

J 38185 - Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the cooling fan shroud assembly. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement (LGD, LZ9) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement (LD8) (Service and Repair).




3. Remove the condenser line to radiator retaining bolt (1).




4. Using J 38185 - Hose Clamp Pliers reposition the hose clamp from the radiator outlet hose.
5. Remove the radiator outlet hose (1) from the radiator.




6. Using J 38185 - Hose Clamp Pliers reposition the hose clamp from the radiator inlet hose.
7. Remove the radiator inlet hose (1) from the radiator.




8. Remove the upper radiator bracket bolts (1).
9. Remove the upper radiator brackets (2).




10. Remove the condenser mounting bolts (1).





Note: Care should be taken when removing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

11. Lift the condenser upward slightly in order to release the lower feet from the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.




12. Lift the radiator (1) up and out the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the radiator (1) to the vehicle.





Note: Care should be taken when installing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

2. Position the condenser, aligning the lower feet to the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

Note: The bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator end tanks are a special length and should be the ONLY bolts used upon reinstallation. The use of longer bolts will damage the radiator end tanks.

3. Install the condenser mounting bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 13 Nm (115 lb in).




4. Install the radiator outlet hose (1) to the radiator.
5. Using J 38185 - Hose Clamp Pliers reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp.




6. Install the radiator inlet hose (1) to the radiator.
7. Using J 38185 - Hose Clamp Pliers reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp to the radiator.




8. Install the upper radiator brackets (2).
9. Install the upper radiator bracket bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




10. Install the condenser line to radiator retaining bolt (1).

Tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb in).

11. Install the cooling fans. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Service and Repair).
