Subject:
Front Door Will Not Open and/or Unlock (Replace Lock Rod Grommet, Align Lock Rods)
Models:
2006-2009 Buick Lucerne
Condition
Some customers may comment that the front driver or passenger doors won't open and/or that the door lock is inoperative.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a binding door lock rod grommet. This binding condition may prevent the lock rod from actuating the latch.
Correction
A revised lock rod grommet has been developed to correct this condition. Use the following steps to replace the grommet and verify the alignment and function of the lock and related components.
Important
Do not replace the door latch.
1. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
2. Locate the lock rod grommet in the door inner panel (1). Remove the original type grommet and install the revised grommet (2).
3. Check all of the lock rods and cables. Verify that the components are attached to all of the guide clips. Ensure that all of the anti-rattle pads are in position and that all of the cables are properly routed.
4. Reinstall the door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
5. Verify the function of the door locks, the inside door handle and the outside door handle.
6. If further diagnosis is required, refer to Symptoms - Vehicle Access in Vehicle Access in the Body Systems section of SI.
