Models:
2006-2009 Buick Lucerne

Supercede:
This bulletin is being revised to update the 2006-2007 IPC part numbers and add reprogramming information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-08-49-021E (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment that the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) display is difficult to see when driving toward bright sunshine. This condition does not affect the IPC operation.

Cause

This condition may be caused by an insufficient color contrast in the IPC display and by insufficient ambient light reaching the cluster face due to deep tunnels around the IPC gauges.

Correction

For the 2006-2009 model years, technicians are to install a new IPC with a display that has LED back lighting. The LED back lighting also improves contrast. Refer to the Instrument Cluster Replacement procedure in SI for more information.

After replacement, reprogram the IPC with the latest software calibration.

Important
Select the correct calibration files for the appropriate vehicle configuration (body style) and RPO codes.

Technicians are to reprogram the IPC using the Service Programming System (SPS) with the latest software available on TIS2WEB. Refer to the Service Programming System (SPS) procedures in SI.

When using a Tech 2(R) or a Multiple Diagnostic Interface (MDI) for reprogramming, ensure that it is updated with the latest software version.

During programming, the battery voltage must be maintained within the proper range of 12-15 Volts. Only use the approved Midtronics(R) PSC 550 Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool EL-49642) or equivalent during programming.

Parts are not available through GMSPO and should be ordered through a GM authorized Electronic Service Center (ESC).
