Diagnostic Fault Information





Circuit/System Description

Battery voltage for the courtesy lamps is supplied at all times to the body control module (BCM). When the BCM receives a signal to command the courtesy lamps ON, it then applies voltage through the courtesy lamps control circuits to the courtesy lamps listed below.

* Dome/reading lamps
* Door courtesy lamps
* Instrument panel courtesy lamps

Conditions for Running the DTC

The BCM attempts to illuminate the courtesy lamps.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects a short to ground on the courtesy lamp control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM will not attempt to activate courtesy lamps.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 100 consecutive malfunction ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Verification

Command the Courtesy Lamps test ON and OFF with a scan tool. The courtesy lamps should turn ON and OFF when changing between commanded states.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the appropriate inoperative backlighting component.
2. Test for less than 5 ohm between the ground circuit terminal of the inoperative component listed and ground.

* E37F Dome/Reading Lamps - Front terminal 6
* E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear terminal 6
* Door courtesy lamps terminal 2
* Instrument panel courtesy lamps terminal 2

• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal of the inoperative component listed below and ground.

* E37F Dome/Reading Lamps - Front terminal 2
* E37R Dome/Reading Lamps - Rear terminal 2
* Door courtesy lamps terminal 1
* Instrument panel courtesy lamps terminal 1

4. Command the Courtesy Lamps ON and OFF with a scan tool.

• If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
• If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

5. If all circuit test normal, test or replace the appropriate inoperative component.
