DTC Descriptor
DTC B2652 02
- Passenger Compartment Dimming 3 Circuit Short to Ground

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) uses the ambient light sensor and the instrument panel dimming switch to determine the brightness of the accent lighting. The BCM applies a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage through the accent light LED control circuit, daylight conditions 70%, night conditions 40% and as welcome light 100% illumination. The following LEDs will be illuminated, if equipped:

* Door accent lamps
* Center console accent lamps
* Instrument panel accent lamps

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is ON.
* The headlamps or park lamps ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects a short to ground on the accent lighting control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM does not attempt to illuminate the accent lighting.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 100 consecutive malfunction ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Verification

When opening the passenger door the ambient illumination should go ON. When closing the driver door and locking the vehicle the courtesy lighting should go OFF after 20 s and the accent light illumination should remain ON at the commanded illumination dimming level with ignition ON.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the appropriate inoperative accent light.
2. Test for less than 5 ohm between the following ground circuit terminals and ground.

* E1C Accent Lamp - Driver Door Handle and E1D Accent Lamp - Driver Door terminal A
* E1M Accent Lamp - Passenger Door Handle and E1P Accent Lamp - Passenger Door terminal A
* E1E Accent Lamp - Left Rear Door Handle and E1LR Accent Lamp - Left Rear Door terminal A
* E1F Accent Lamp - Right Rear Door Handle and E1RR Accent Lamp - Right Rear Door terminal A
* Instrument panel accent lamp terminal B
* Center console accent lamp terminal B

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Exterior lights OFF.
4. Ignition OFF.
5. Close all doors and lock the vehicle, test for less than 0.3 V between control circuit terminal listed below of the appropriate inoperative accent light and ground after 20 s.

* E1D Accent Lamp - Driver Door terminal B
* E1P Accent Lamp - Passenger Door terminal B
* E1LR Accent Lamp - Left Rear Door terminal B
* E1RR Accent Lamp - Right Rear Door terminal B
* E1C Accent Lamp - Driver Door Handle terminal C
* E1M Accent Lamp - Passenger Door Handle terminal C
* E1E Accent Lamp - Left Rear Door Handle terminal C
* E1F Accent Lamp - Right Rear Door Handle terminal C
* Instrument panel accent lamp terminal A
* Center console accent lamp terminal A

If greater than the specified value, test the circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuits test normal replace the K9 Body Control Module.

6. Unlock the vehicle.
7. Open the driver door.
8. Test for greater than 11 V between control circuit terminal listed below of the appropriate inoperative accent light and ground.

* E1D Accent Lamp - Driver Door terminal B
* E1P Accent Lamp - Passenger Door terminal B
* E1LR Accent Lamp - Left Rear Door terminal B
* E1RR Accent Lamp - Right Rear Door terminal B
* E1C Accent Lamp - Driver Door Handle terminal C
* E1M Accent Lamp - Passenger Door Handle terminal C
* E1E Accent Lamp - Left Rear Door Handle terminal C
* E1F Accent Lamp - Right Rear Door Handle terminal C
* Instrument panel accent lamp terminal A
* Center console accent lamp terminal A

If less than the specified value, test the circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal replace the K9 Body Control Module.

9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate inoperative accent light
