Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) supplies voltage to the dome/reading lamps, sunshade, instrument panel compartment lamp and the center console compartment lamp. Each lamp contains a control switch than enables the operator the turn any of the lamps ON and OFF as desired.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the function of the E31L sunshade mirror lamp-left and the E31R sunshade mirror lamp-right while turning each light ON and OFF by using their respective control switches. Each light should turn ON and OFF from each switch.

If both sunshade mirror lamps are inoperative, refer to All Sunshade Mirror Lamps Inoperative.

If the E31L sunshade mirror lamp-left is inoperative, refer to Single Sunshade Mirror Lamp Inoperative

If the E31R sunshade mirror lamp-right is inoperative, refer to Single Sunshade Mirror Lamp Inoperative

Circuit/System Testing

All Sunshade Mirror Lamps Inoperative
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X5 harness connector at the K9 BCM.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 3 and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition OFF, connect the X5 harness connector and disconnect X7 harness connector the at the K9 BCM.
4. Connect a 15A fused jumper wire between the ignition circuit terminal 2 and B+.
5. Command the E31L sunshade mirror lamp-left and the E31R sunshade mirror lamp-right ON and OFF by using their respective control switches. Each lamp should turn ON and OFF while changing between the commanded states.

If the jumper wire fuse immediately opens, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground.

If the jumper wire fuse opens while commanding a E31 sunshade mirror lamp ON, replace the E31 sunshade mirror lamp.

6. If all circuits test normal, replace the K9 BCM.

Single Sunshade Mirror Lamp Inoperative
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate E31 sunshade mirror lamp.
2. Test for less than 30 ohm between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal A and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance.

4. If all circuits test normal, replace the bulb or test or replace the E31 sunshade mirror lamp.
