Subject: 09351 - Service Update for Inventory Vehicles Only - Loose Coil Ground Wire - Expires August 31, 2010

Models:
2010 Buick LaCrosse
Equipped with a V6 Engine (RPO LF1/LLT)

This service update involves vehicles in dealer inventory only and will expire August 31, 2010.

Purpose

This bulletin provides a service procedure to check the coil ground wire at two locations on certain 2010 Buick LaCrosse vehicles equipped with a V6 engine (RPO LF1/LLT). These vehicles may have a loose coil ground wire, which could cause the engine to run rough, misfire, or cause the Service Engine Soon light to illuminate or flash.

This service procedure should be completed on involved vehicles currently in dealership inventory as soon as possible but no later than August 31, 2010, at which time this bulletin will expire.

Vehicles Involved

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in GM GlobalConnect (US) or attached to the GlobalConnect message (Canada).

Important
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS (dealers using WINS) or the Investigate Vehicle History link (dealers using GWM). Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

Parts Information

No parts are required for this service update.

Service Procedure

1. Open the hood.





2. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement in SI.





3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LF1) or (LLT) in SI.

4. Locate the coil ground G122 (2). G122 (2) is the ground for coils 1, 3 and 5, and is located on the passenger's side of the vehicle at the rear of the cylinder head.

5. Locate the coil ground G123 (1). G123 (1) is the ground for coils 2, 4 and 6, and is located on the driver's side of the vehicle at the front of the cylinder head. Refer to the illustration for coil ground locations.
6. Inspect the ground connection at the G123 (1) location, which is on the driver's side of the vehicle at the front of the cylinder head.

1. Ensure that the ground connection is secure.
2. Using a torque wrench, tighten the fastener to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). Do NOT over-tighten the fastener.





7. Inspect the ground connection at the G122 location, which is on the passenger's side of the vehicle at the rear of the cylinder head.





1. Use a mirror to locate the ground fastener G122. Refer to illustration.

Caution
The torque specification for the fastener at the G122 location is 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). You will not be able to use a torque wrench at this location. Carefully tighten the fastener at this location. Do NOT over-tighten the fastener.

2. Inspect the fastener with a wrench.

- If the fastener is loose, tighten the fastener until the ground connection at the G122 location is secure. Do NOT over-tighten the fastener.
- If the fastener is not loose, proceed to Step 8.





8. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LF1) or (LLT) in SI.





9. Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement in SI.
10. Close the hood.

2. Courtesy Transportation - For dealers using WINS, submit using normal labor code; for dealers using GWM - submit as Net Item under the repair labor code.
