Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit Description
The rear seat entertainment (RSE) system utilizes the vehicle radio to play DVD movies and transmit video signals to the digital video disc (DVD) seatback displays. When the radio is turned ON, the DVD seatback displays receive a voltage signal from the radio via the antenna enable signal circuit indicating the system status. The video high and low control circuits are used to transmit the DVD images to the DVD seatback displays.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, Radio ON, DVD playing, verify that the Rear Seat Entertainment System audio and video functions are working properly.
• If the Rear Seat Entertainment System is inoperative refer to Circuit/System Testing.
2. Verify that all remote control functions are working properly.
• If one or more functions on the remote control are inoperative, refer to Video Entertainment System Remote Control Malfunction (Video Entertainment System Remote Control Malfunction).
3. Verify that each headphone is working properly.
• If one or more of the headphones are inoperative, refer to Video Entertainment System Wireless Headphone Malfunction (Video Entertainment System Wireless Headphone Malfunction).
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate DVD display.
2. Ignition OFF for two minutes, test for less than 5 ohm between the ground circuit terminals listed below and ground.
* Ground terminal 8
* Ground terminal 14
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
4. Ignition ON, connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 2 and the B + circuit terminal 1.
5. Command the dual display enable ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
• If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
• If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
6. DVD playing, test for 1-6 V between the video bright control circuit terminal 16, and ground.
• If greater than specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
• If less than specified range, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
7. DVD playing, command the video mode to normal, test for 1-2 V between the video mode signal circuit terminal 15, and ground.
• If greater than specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
• If less than specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
8. DVD playing, test for 1-3 V between the control circuit terminals listed below and ground.
* Video Signal (+)- terminal 9
* Video Signal (-) - terminal 10
• If greater then specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
• If less then specified range, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
9. If all circuits test normal, replace the DVD display.
