Campaign - Fluid Leak At Power Steering Pump
SERVICE UPDATEBulletin No.: 09295
Date: November 09, 2009
Subject: 09295 - Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles - Power Steering Fluid Leak at Power Steering Pump - Expires with Base Warranty
Models:
2010 Buick LaCrosse
This service update includes vehicles in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealership for any reason. It will expire at the end of the involved vehicle's new vehicle limited warranty period.
Purpose
This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect and, if necessary, install a new bolt and two washers at the banjo bolt attachment to the power steering pump on certain 2010 model year Buick LaCrosse vehicles. These vehicles may have a small power steering fluid leak at this connection.
This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.
Vehicles Involved
A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in GM GlobalConnect (US) or attached to the GlobalConnect message (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.
Important
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS (dealers using WINS) or the Investigate Vehicle History screen (dealers using GWM). Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.
Parts Information
Involved dealers, in the U.S. and Canada, will be pre-shipped a sufficient supply of part number 13280036 and 13305013 to service their stock/unsold vehicles. SPO has manually placed a DRO order on behalf of each dealer, and parts will be shipped via FED EX delivery at no additional cost to the dealer. Both of these part numbers ARE managed by RIM, and your inventory will be replenished according to your stocking policy. If a dealer feels they need to order additional inventory to service customer vehicles, then the parts required to complete this service update are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering additional parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.
Service Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle until the wheels are off the ground. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.
2. Remove front passenger side wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in SI.
3. Locate the power steering inlet hose bolt (4). The bolt is located on the bottom side of the power steering pump.
4. Determine if the power steering inlet hose bolt is gold (first design) (1) or silver (second design) (2).
- If the power steering inlet hose bolt is gold (1), proceed to Step 5.
- If the power steering inlet hose bolt is silver (2), proceed to Step 14.
5. Place a drain pan under the vehicle and below the power steering pump.
6. Remove the power steering inlet hose bolt (4) and two copper seals (3). Allow the fluid to drain.
7. Install two new copper seals, P/N 13305013 and the second design silver bolt, P/N13280036. Tighten the bolt to 35 Nm(26 lb-ft) using a torque wrench. Use care to ensure that the power steering hose does not rotate and contact the body side rail.
8. Partially lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.
9. Open the hood and fill the power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the minimum system level, the FULL COLD level, or the middle of the hash mark on the cap stick fluid level indicator, as applicable.
10. With the key in the ON position and with the engine ON, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop 15 to 20 times.
11. Turn the engine OFF and verify the power steering fluid level. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid in SI.
12. Start the engine. Rotate the steering wheel from left to right. Inspect the power steering system for signs of cavitation or fluid aeration, like pump noise or whining.
13. Turn the engine OFF and verify the fluid level. Repeat the bleed procedure, if necessary.
14. Ensure that there is no evidence of a power steering fluid leak at the power steering inlet hose bolt location.
15. Install passenger side wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in SI.
16. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.
