Starter Motor: Service and Repair




Starter Replacement (V6)

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
2. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement (4T65-E - Automatic Transmission).
3. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (3) from the starter motor.
4. Remove the positive battery cable terminal (1) and engine harness terminal (2) from the starter.




5. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connector (3).
6. Remove the transmission brace. Refer to Transmission Brace Replacement (Extension Housing) (Transmission Brace Replacement (Extension Housing))Transmission Brace Replacement (Converter Housing) (Transmission Brace Replacement (Converter Housing)).




7. Remove the starter bolts.
8. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the starter motor to the engine.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the starter bolts and tighten to 43 Nm (32 lb ft).
3. Install the transmission brace. Refer to Transmission Brace Replacement (Extension Housing) (Transmission Brace Replacement (Extension Housing))Transmission Brace Replacement (Converter Housing) (Transmission Brace Replacement (Converter Housing)).




4. Connect the starter motor electrical connector (3).




5. Install the engine harness terminal (2) and positive battery cable terminal (1) to the starter. Ensure that the positive battery cable terminal anti-rotation feature is aligned correctly.
6. Install the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (3) to the starter motor and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
7. Install the torque converter covers. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement (4T65-E - Automatic Transmission).
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
