Circuit/System Description

The compass information is displayed in the driver information center (DIC). As the vehicle travels with or against the earths magnetic pull, the compass heading signal to the DIC changes. As a result of the compass heading signal change, the DIC adjusts and changes the direction of the compass display. When an invalid signal is sent to the DIC or a malfunction exists in the compass heading, the DIC blanks the display and displays '- -', 'CAL' or C.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, verify that the DIC compass does not display "C" or "CAL".

• If the DIC compass displays "C" or "CAL", perform the Compass Calibration and Magnetic Variance procedure. Refer to Compass Calibration and Magnetic Variance (Driver Information Center (DIC)) (Compass Calibration and Magnetic Variance (Driver Information Center (DIC)))Compass Calibration and Magnetic Variance (Mirror) (Compass Calibration and Magnetic Variance (Mirror)).

2. Verify that the DIC compass display is not blank.

• If the DIC compass display is blank, replace the IPC.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
